RIP Amy Winehouse

Poor Amy...Bizarre to think someone so talented could die so young from what was probably a massive overdose. 🙁

I worked with her once. She was lovely.

Why bizarre? Being a junkie means it is almost expected.

Dunno, it's just strange in my head that people who can be so talented can have so many problems.

drink and drugs give you highs, then the lows it during this period that cause the human frailties to manifest. nothing to do with talent. more to do with our personal demons

Maybe it's something to do with achieving too much too soon. Exceeding all of your expectations in life too young, then having nothing to aspire to. Sitting on all that money with no job to go to and no responsibilities might have a lot to do with it as well. Being able to go out and afford to get wrecked on whatever substances you want, without having anything to reel you back in. Then there are the influences of the rock and roll lifestyle. Some people are ready for it and take it in their stride, whereas others can't hack the pressures of it all.

I wasn't a fan of her music, but I do hope there is peace for her beyond the life she had.

Her musical talent is what we loved and it is that loss which is so devastating.

Individual talents are not interchangeable - there is not always another talent waiting in the wings to take her place. She has visibly influenced other singers, but they are not adequate substitutes. She simply leaves a gap and it will not be filled.

Is it not curious how nasty and insulting the attitudes are towards mental ill health and addiction? The desire to translate this into a matter of personal morality is not intelligent but reverts to pre-modern foolishness.

The circumstances of her death and her psychological flaws are depressing but maybe it would help to notice that her material success did not protect her, the efforts of people who clearly did care could not rescue her and the level of professional intervention available to her in The Priory and elsewhere was not capable of "curing" her. The point being that in fact she did go to rehab and it is not very effective.

Going to rehab because you want to rid yourself of your addiction and going to rehab because you want somewhere quiet and private to come down from your last binge are two different things.

Now, now. Is that fact or just your own personal opinion based on what you've read in the media?
