Besides Chess and maybe Go, this is by far the most logical of all board games. I just bought it the other day and have learned everything I can about the game with some quick studying, but alas I now cannot find anyone to play me in it. 🙁 Seems no one I know is really willing to play a game that actually involves strategy or, ya know, THINKING. :*(

I think I'm mostly taking to it because I've always loved reading about guys like Napoleon and Hitler, and obviously both had high ambitions to be emporer of the world. Nonetheless, how do you convince someone to sit down and read a whole manual and then sit with you for a few hours to play a game they've never played before??? 🙁

a few hours???

I've played a LOT of risk.....(letsee in 16 different states, and probably with over 60 different people....long story, i traveled on business)

Anways... I've never seen a full risk game (with more than 2 players) last less than 3 hours. Usually more like 5/6 with the longest game going +12 (4 veteran risk players)

On another note, It might be logical, but the KEY to winning at risk (besides rolling good dice) is the political-side. Convincing others to go against your opponents...and then hitting them when they are diminished!

I love Risk. I am sure I have seen some free client software somewhere so you can play online. I will have a bit of a hunt for it, so Kev if I find it and you are up for game then let me know

When it is one-on-one with one player who has been playing for a while and another who just learned, the game is rarely as long as a game between a few great players.

I am sure you will, its been a long time since I played Risk. I used to own a tacky version of the board game where the pieces representing armies and such were little plastice oojahs similar to the Trivial Pursuit wedges.

I've found a lot of Risk games to download and all are playable online, but they all seem to be shareware so to play fully there is a cost. Gee I wish i could remember where that bloody free one was. I will let you know soon.

I could help you look. Want me to Google it? Anything that can't be found by Googling just isn't worth finding! 😉

Does this game not involve the roll of the dice? If Ja then it seems to me that it is as much a game of chance as it is a game of stragety.

It does, but only in battles. It is quite honestly the only game where dice is involved that is almost absolutely not based on chance. You have to choose to roll, choose when not to roll, and choose who to roll against and for what terrority. If you've never played the game then don't make claims like that, my friend.

I have played the game.I lost because of the roll of the dice. I could not win any battles because they are controlled by the dice. My twice as big army kept getting smaller and smaller and smaller till I lost.

Risk is base on another board game, called diplomacy. That game has no chance at all. No dice involved at all. I have never been able to play it in real as I couldn't find anybody to play with.

If a good online version of risk is found, I will gladly join as I have played risk for many many years.

Awww, more opponents who are masochistic enough to want to play me, muhahaha! 😉 You'll certainly welcome to play, my friend. Let's just hope Robbo can track one down cause I sure couldn't. 🙁

gambit, I don't know what to tell you.
