Perhaps they are referring to Omar Sharif playing Sherif Ali in Lawrence of Arabia.

Don't quote me on this but because I am old and was around when the clash were ...the word "sharreef" was a term used for the Ayatollah Khomeini who apparantly banned rock and roll as he thought it was a corruptive influence on the people so the clash responded with this slammer of a fine tune.

Regards,

Diane

Did they go house to house confiscating rock and roll lps? I never heard of the term "sharreef". What country did you hear that term from? I did hear Homer J. Simpson say Ayatollah As_aholea.

Perhaps it was not Homer that spoke it, but I heard it. I heard it as the Simpsons were going off? I did not read it.
