I noticed on the BBC site they were comparing Rooney to Pele.
Ahum.
Maybe a wee reality check is needed somewhere along the lines. We all know that when Portugal knocks England out there's gonna be riots, the trainer will be a good-for-nothing and Rooney couldn't live up to his name....
tsk.
As good as Pele. Before we know it they'll be calling him "The new Maradona"
And believe me...he isn't.

What they should actually be saying is "At last, someone who appears to be able to score goals, but lets wait and see if he can continue to do so".
Originally posted by Vargowen could score goals! but he has kinda lost his touch now though...😕

the comparisons with pele are ridiculous.
should he drag england to euro glory then maybe but until then Boy Wonder should suffice.

Don't knock us down just because your team is struggling. England are not great but they getting the right results. I think that the game against Portugal will be tough but England will shade it by the odd goal.
As for the riots, let's just hope that the fans take a leaf out of the Scots - just enjoy the atmosphere and the beer plus be friendly to everyone.
I'm not sure what people are getting themselves so worked up about. One quote from Sven was "I don't remember anyone making such an impact on a tournament since Pele in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden."
Surely I have missed something else that he has said? If not, then the above quote hardly contains contains anything overly outlandish to provoke all this indignation.

Barry Davies makes me laugh with his headmasterly admonishing tone: he's guaranteed to say, at every major tournament, "The Italians only have themselves to blame because they will not learn"
I rather liked Bobby Robson saying "Lesley King".
