Who are we talking about?

I'd give her 10 hours of community work...clearing up graffitti or something.
Originally posted by shavixmirwell, the interesting thing about it is that her family is well off and so they put up a 100,000 reward for her safe return or something like that. so a lot of people think that she should at least pay for what it cost law enforcement to search for her.
that's terrible.

Forcing her to get married would be a fine punishment. Of course they'd have to have her marry a man that had done the same thing to someone else.
I read where the jilted future hubby still wants to marry her. That would be the very definition of stupid. Or perhaps just horny. Tough to tell the difference between those two sometimes.
Originally posted by Toethe really weird thing here is that the jilted groom STILL wants to marry this sick f..k,, can you believe that?
It would seem that a psychiatric evaluation is in order. If she's on the ball and has done this as a publicity stunt for fame / fortune, then "wasting police time" is an offence.
The wedding attendees, family and jilted groom may also sue for emotinal distress in the USA I suspect.

Quite frankly, who gives two hoots? If she broke the law, fine, have her arrested or something, if it's just a matter of people's sensibilities being upset, then let em sort it out themselves. Why is this sort of rubbish news?
Originally posted by StarrmanThere is a moral dimension to the tale: the woman is castigated, she serves as a warning to others, of an indulgent nature, to not waste police resources in the same manner.

I have seen reportage of considerably more dubious quality... though I would concede that it belongs to the "... and finally" category.
Just to clarify, Mz Wilbanks reportedly did not know that she had half of Georgia's finest out looking for it. The story goes that she basically spent 4 days either on a bus or in bus stations and was unaware of the hullaballoo she had caused until she got to New Mexico. At that point she called 911 and made up a kidnapping story which she very quickly recanted. The folks in New Mexico and the FBI have both chosen not to press charges, but the local Districts Attorney in Duluth, GA is apparently trying to find something to charge her with (after all, it's apparently now a crime to get on a bus and head across the country 5 days before your wedding without telling anyone in the People's Repbulic of Georgia).
My guess is that she panicked because the wedding was getting out of hand (14 bridesmaids, 600 guests, etc. etc.) and headed for the hills. I'm sure we'll find out what happened soon enough, but I'm amazed at the folks who want to punish her without knowing the whole story....
