Guys, if it will make you happy, I have PM'd Russ and he and my parents are getting in contact, so this arguement is over.

Nice to hear from you again, Fjord. You've been away from the forums for a long time. It seems like you think Russ was incorrect in requiring age verification in order to play here. Are you aware that a site like this can be held legally accountable in the absence of such verification? As no1marauder has indicated: "Any web site operator who collects per ...[text shortened]... ining said information." How should Russ go about seeking parental consent, do you think?

Hi Bennet, true, I was for quite a while away from the forum (and the chess) due to changes in my personal life. And I was looking forwards to returning to it. But it will not be that way.

I am critical about the decision the admin made regarding the age limit, but I am shocked by the way they applied it without consideration for the consequences for the affected kids. It is hard to see how this was in their best interest.

You ask me how I think it could have been done better. I don't think it will be helpful to discuss that while the decisions are already made. The dice have been thrown and we have to take our gains and losses.

It left me no other choice than to leave RHP and to look for another site where I can play together with my grandson (11).

While leaving I wish RHP all the best with their future developments.
And I like to thank Russ, Chris and the moderators for the many good things I have seen them doing to us. Due to them I have met, played and fought many people on RHP that enriched my life. It was great. Again, thanks to all involved.

Well, that is unfortunate. Perhaps Russ would agree to allowing your grandson to play here if you or his parents consented via e-mail to his being here. If this isn't an option, or if you are too upset at the decision to try and find a way to keep your grandson here, then I understand.

Anyway, I always enjoyed our discussions, and I hope you and your grandson are well.

in the post above, abejnood mentioned his parents and Russ are getting into contact witht he aim i guess of letting him stay. is that an option for you and your grandson? it seems a pity you both have to go...

actually, why not ask Russ to implement a 'Kid's Account': no forum access, no personal messaging, but the ability to play chess?

Thanks Bennett. So did I and I wish we would have the chance to continue that. There are still a few things I am very interested in to discuss with you.
No, I am not too upset to stay if I felt/thought that it was the best decision to take. But that is not the case. Orin has to leave RHP and where I have custody (his father/ my son died some time ago) he has to find a new place to play and for obvious reasons I will not let him go there on his own.
But I may decide to stay here on the forum and play incidentally a game. I just have to see how things develop.

Thanks dfm65. I'm afraid that it is no option. Orin has written in his profile that he is 11 years old. I am not going to tell him that he has to change that to be able to stay. It is all rather unfortunate that understandable fear for the mighty arm of a US organization seems to disrupt the agreements between people outside the US. But it is not new 😕
