Look people: I posted to let the mods know about this situation. A couple of months here or there didn't matter for me, but I wanted to make sure people knew. Now, if ANYONE read the title of this thread, it says RUSS and MODERATERS read this thread. I did NOT say : People of the RHP community who want to come and call me a stinking, stupid, lying brat com ...[text shortened]... you their e-mail address; then you can tell them what you think of me. And see how they respond!
Originally posted by abejnoodWe, as moderators, have no business in this issue. This is between you and Russ as Belgian stated earlier. PM him, and he will take appropriate action. My guess is that you will have to wait until you are 13 to return. It's not about if you think a couple of months is OK, it's about if Russ thinks it, and the rule is quite clear.

No one under the age of 13 can be a member of this site. It doesn't matter if you are an hour away from being 13, you are still 12. There is no way of getting around that.

So what happens to the subscibtions? And to the kids who are on this site and lied about their age? And isn't this a CHESS site? Does it matter what age you are to play the game? And, in a living community, don't children and adults live together?
If Russ asks me to leave, even though my main point being here is to just play chess, I will take it and leave with dignity.
Hi,
I read your posts and I am with you.
My grandson is 11 and played on RHP, as I did too.
We are both leaving RHP, and several others with us.
You can be proud of yoursaelf to be so honest.
I am leaving in 2 hours for vacation with my daughters and will be back in 2 weeks.
If you have to leave RHP you can contact me, we found probably another good friendly community to play chess. I hope for you you can stay on RHP, but if not send me a note and I will give you the link when I am back from vacation.
My email is frans@yantra.nl
All the best

PS Ask your parents for advice for the best way to take!

That is alright too.
I have resigned my games and will leave RHP.
When I am back from vacation I am quite willing to explain the reasons why as far as they are not clear from previous posts.

Originally posted by fjordNice to hear from you again, Fjord. You've been away from the forums for a long time. It seems like you think Russ was incorrect in requiring age verification in order to play here. Are you aware that a site like this can be held legally accountable in the absence of such verification? As no1marauder has indicated: "Any web site operator who collects personal information from children under 13 including full name, email address, hobbies, etc is required to seek parental consent BEFORE obtaining said information." How should Russ go about seeking parental consent, do you think?

Originally posted by abejnoodIf you're a legal liability to the site, then that is my suggestion. The question is: are you a liability? If Russ can get the consent of your parents for your being here, then I don't see what the problem is. This may not be feasible for all players under 13, however.

Originally posted by bbarrAll right then. Hopefully then the whole discussion will be over and I can get to telling jokes, on which I will soon be starting new thread on.

I think a lot of people are missing the point. They are NOT establishing an age limit for playing chess... They are establishing an age limit for using a site that collects and/or displays personal information.
I agree with Russ' decision 100%. He must do what he must do - otherwise it opens the door for bad things, like personal liabilities for him and Chris and loss of this great site.
Let's not take such a great site for granted. Let's also not take children's online privacy for granted.

This thread is hilarious! Post more like this dude!
Who else thinks its ridiculous that there's an age limit for playing chess??
