i dont understand how some players as high as 1400 can register for a rookie clan battle , dosnt this defeat the purpose of the lower ranking trying to win a tournament crown. We may as well invite david tebb to join as well. I think i will join the advanced duel for some experience ...😠 Maybe we need a filter that restricts players with larger rating than the max rating of the tournament🙂

Bill, I may have the answer to your question.

When you sign up for a tournament you do have to have a rating that is within the limits. However, if your rating changes after you have enrolled and becomes outside the limits, you are still enrolled. (I asked about this recently and that's the answer I received.)

That might explain why you are seeing members with a rating which appears to be too high or low for a specific tournament.

Another thing to consider is the new 'provisional' rating for members with less than 20 rated games completed. Their rating jumps around quite a bit from one game to the next because of the formula being used. So if a provisional-rated member signs up for a tournament you will probably see some drastic changes in their rating.

Hope that helps,
Marc

Marc is 100% correct.

The provisional rating is probably the main problem here - and we will only see this problem if someone joins the site, plays a couple of games, subscribes, and then enters a tournament. I wouldn't want to exclude people with provisional ratings from tournaments, as that is the reason a lot of new members choose to subscribe.

[And most tournaments are open to all anyway]

you could ask them for an estimated rating on their part which wouldn't be shown and would only be used in registration for suck tournaments? i.e. if both their provisional and estimated rating are within the bounds then they can join?
