I would suggest Mike Bassett. Actually Berty Bassett would still be better. Need a bit of passion. Scare the prima-donnas on the pitch into playing. A hint of "But boss.. I don't normally play in dat position". Cut a few from the squad, they are too complacent. Oh.. congrats to the Nirish... hope the hangovers didn't hurt too much.
I say wait until the WC qualifiers are finished, THEN sack him. That will shock the England fans and players.
Then again, there is a certain amount of racism involved when parts of media say that only an Englishman can and should coach England. Their passion is blind and their logic is crap. I can always point out international coaches who have been successful with other nation's teams (Big Phil Scolari with Portugal in Euro 2004, Guus Hiddink with South Korea in 2002).
I'd say give the job to Jose Mourinho, but he'd only coach Portugal.... 😀

Yeah - I like to see Big Sam in the England role, but maybe not for another couple of seasons - I just don't think he's ready yet.
As for England having an English manager, it's no skin off my nose whether the guy is English or not.
Can someone confirm to me that half the English team are from Irish stock? My uncle reckons names like Gerrard and Rooney have their roots in Ireland..
Originally posted by FavsIt's true- so many of your players have Irish origins, at least as far as their genaeology is concerned. But England can be very good at assimilating foreigners- there's a fellow who drinks in my local, goes by the name of Joseph Patrick O'Sullivan. Thickest Birmingham accent ever. He cheers the English teams, and declares himself a Brummy! Fair paly to him- that's where his strongest ties are held. He's quite right.

Anyway, you gave us the legendary Jackie Charlton, now an honorary Paddy, and lots of his team "oh yeah, my nan was a Biddy", etc., so we shan't be complaining.
I have mentioned this in other posts, but Rooney is less Irish, than a member of the international nation of tinkers. But old spud's one hell of a talent. He can shapen gardening tools like a pro too!
Anyway, let's call it even!
The reason why most top premiership managers are Johnny Foreign is because Johnny has been more successful in recent years. There were a fair few Scots in there too- another example of how England lost her independence awhile back!
But regarding continental managers- If there were a tactician who was English, and merited the post, then I've no doubt that that man would get the job. But football is a business now, so there's little time for national sensibilities...too much money involved.
Speaking of which, wouldn't sacking the Swede now cost you 12-15 million quid? If so, I'd hang onto him awhile yet! That's alot of Swedish meatballs you could buy with that!
By the way, if his name were Sam Allardici, then he'd probably be selling you fish and chips from the dug-out, but I'd still buy him a pint, and give him a pat on the back. Good old Allardici- what a legendary chap!
🙂
