So I exercise four times a week. I started taking vitamin D and I eat lots of fish. I don't drink a lot, I have a regular routine, I'm not depressed! Still, this winter is bumming me out. I keep fantasizing about camping, grass, leaves on trees, grilling, the lake, riding with the windows open.

I even sat out on my deck for 15 minutes staring in the direction of the sun today. I'm sure I looked weird in my robe on the sun chair in the snow I have not shoveled off my deck, but whatever.

My ex had Seasonal Affective Disorder. He would just withdraw slowly until I am pretty sure there was a full day where he wouldn't say a word. It's the strangest thing to watch. Very weird.

I live where winter is very cold, snowy and long anyway. But I usually like winter. If doing something indoors would satisfy me, that's one thing. I just feel like I am repeating the same day over and over and over and it's bumming me out.

And I know I'm drinking way too much coffee lately.

I don't think it's Seasonal Affective Disorder. That's the feeling I get with the California weather (repeating the same day over and over). I'd love to be out in the snow right now. Sorry, can't offer any solutions, but I do sympathize.

Sounds like you just need a bit of a change of routine to remind yourself how good life is right now.

Luckily I am not affected by the dark - living north of the polar circle isn't good for people with SAD. But I know some people who suffer from SAD, and I know of at least one who uses a special lamp and finds it very helpful. The lamp has the same light spectrum as the sun (I think), and you need to sit in front of it for a certain amount of time every morning. It seems to be one of the most successful treatments for SAD.

I used to get depressed in feb-march when I was younger, but not anymore. now I just get pissed off about cold & snow, but not depressed. winter is the time to read more and drink less for me.

I'm doing very well this winter, I've been playing a bit of cricket once a week to get some exercise, no change in diet, and guess what, I have a social life, so much fun and booze. 😵
Last winter was the worst I've ever had...but this one is great! 😏

Do you have a place you can go for indoor tanning? Consider more plants in your house, if you're able to keep them watered. Perhaps the 2 together might cheer you up.

Or, when you are feeling down you get a kitten. That should cheer you up. Then the next time you feel blue get another kitten. Kittens are pretty cheap so this could get you through the winter. The in spring you just have to convince neighbors you are not really the crazy cat person that smells of cat urine. Then all the winters after this one you can think back to the "Kitten" winter and have a good laugh.

Heck, why not just have a baby or 6?! They last longer in most cases.

I used to get seasonal depression every year. I worked second shift, and would hardly see sunlight for 2-3 months. After changing careers, I was out in the sun everyday, and getting plenty of sunshine, and havn't had a major relapse since (except for maybe if it rains for 2 weeks, and I'm working in some dark mechanical room).

I know its not SAD. I think there's a few things at work here. I'm not in a marriage anymore. This is not something that bums me out, though. I have more time alone than ever before. This has got to be part of it. I think this past summer I got outside and did a lot more by myself and then winter hit pretty fast and screwed it all up.

In New England, the freaking winter is so long. This is the first winter that I have wished it away and felt so restless. I want to hit the couch and snooze all the time.

Phlab, I have really pale skin, I don't think I can do tanning more than five minutes! Do you think that would help really? I do have plants but right now my palm is dying and its pissing me off.

It's good advice to read, though, because I haven't had a book in ages so I'll do that.

I know life is good, really, I'm not about to hang myself here.

Indoor rock climbing? Is that any fun or a one time deal thing?

🙂

I've known people who work 2nd and 3rd shift and they are really messed up folks 😉.
