Similar idea as Seti@home: distributed computing. There are others too, but I believe that Seti is the largest. Seti reports running at 65.14 TeraFLOPs/sec for the last 24 hours, so distributed computing has great potential.

SETI may be bigger, but you don't get quite the same warm fuzzy feeling searching for life as you do saving it

Also the SETI one gives you a rather naff client that shows rather dull graphs where as the grid gives you a bright shiney client that shows pretty pictures of the protiens you're folding.... (thats the only current project but ther will be more!)
