Hello guys,
I know this is a quite uncommon way for something like that. I am searching for someone who studied mechanical engineering and is working in the USA or perhaps even owns his own engineering company. I myself study business and engineering and will graduate in about a year or one and a half years. My girlfriend is half American but this is not enough for us to become a citizen of the USA. I am therefore looking to find a way how to go to the USA and work and live there together with my girlfriend. We want to try to become the American citizenship. I know that I also have to improve my English π.
I want to get to know someone who is up for a good game of chess who perhaps can help me out with the things mentioned above. I would love to meet an american engineer who can perhaps give me some tips or knows a good way how to find work in the USA. I know that I need a valid visa for that. But the only way to get it is to find work in the USA so that the company can get a visa for me.
Anyone who has something useful is welcome to answer.
I am up for some good challenges. My rating seems to settle around 1500 just to inform you. I like playing slow games. I prefer 7/14 or 7/28 challenges. Thank you!

Good luck in finding help.

It's a common German mistake (I remember how in grammar school someone told us during an English lesson that he wanted to become a bike for Christmas). "Become" = "werden", "bekommen" = "get".

I can't help you much, but one thing you need to know is that you'll need one fulltime job to get a green card. That caused my sister a lot of problems - she had more than enough work, but all her jobs were part-time. Also, unless things have changed, you can't keep your German citizenship if you become an American citizen, so that's a pretty big decision - if I were you, I'd probably not do that until I had lived there for several years and were absolutely sure I want to stay.

Even with all our problems, there are many more positive factors than negative ones. You can find flaws and ugliness anywhere in the world, but if you look at the big picture, you'll see how extraordinary the U.S. really is. I can't help you with a job, but feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

someone would like to go there.
However, you really don't need English at all or search for a job or
break your head.
HONEST OPINION:
Learn Spanish, just fly to New York or anywhere in Southern U.S., and
you'll make it just right. Of course you have to start from the bottom,
but if you're clever, honest and hardworking, the American Dream will
come right at you in no time. And be nice to the Hispanics there. They
are the real power of the country.

If you can get on with a US corporation, they'll often be able to get you a work visa. I'm not sure what it takes to convert that to a permanent residency. Our immigration laws (and enforcement) is completely screwed up, and I know that this can take a long time to get sorted out. Also, working for a corporation can have its downsides.

I'm curious what you mean, when you say that your girlfriend is "half" American. I would have thought that either she is or she isn't. If she is a citizen, and you are desperate to get into the US, then you could marry her and I think that bumps you to the front of the line for immigration. If she's not a citizen then you're going to have a tough go of it I think. I wish you the best of luck though.
Oh, and congratulations on your little Christmas bundle of joy! π
