They get away with it for two reasons. The only one I'm willing to address right now is culture. This schoolyard bully boy, lord-of-the-flies mentality is the culture of the forums. The culture of an organization is almost impossible to change.
That's why I've come up with a new approach. Rather than try to change all of the threads, we're going to attempt to carve out a small section of the gen forum where it is safe for decent folk to post things that are kind, considerate and polite.
