@beowulf saidMaybe it works different where you are. If they don't have enough money for a few days' access to the internet via their phones, either donate some money to them [if you are sympathetic] or don't. No need to give them the password to your wifi connection.
New neighbors downstairs who have foreign work visas and they asked to use my WiFi for a few days because the cable guy takes time...
Bad idea?
@beowulf saidAbsolutely not! Security risk.

Buy them a PAYG sim with high data package and let them stream from it. That would be a safe and neighbourly thing to do.
Edit: just seen FMF’s comment, so what he said.
You guys are over-reacting.
I seriously doubt anyone who could hack anything would waste their time trying to steal my ex-con and jobless identity who is also broke and penniless.
Also, my accounts and such like email, social media and banking all have 2 step verification.
I told them they have 4 days to get their cable set up and aren't y'all always telling me to stop being so racist and stereotypical and mean? 🤷
@fmf saidNo, I was curious as to what could possibly be bad about it because I don't know anything about it.
Surely this is what you wanted us to do.
Obviously I did an internet search about the possible dangers but they gave the same answers as you guys which weren't really answers at all.

@beowulf saidIf you decide to let them piggyback on your Wi-Fi connection for a few days, go ahead. I’d avoid online banking during such time, if I were you. Despite two/factor authentication, anyone who knows your account number has got half the rent right there. Change your password immediately they have their cable connection.

@beowulf saidSounds like you already made up your mind. So why even ask?

@beowulf saidI had a new couple move next door, pretty much the same situation would take a few days to get the cable and they had a 2 year old who played games. She had one in the oven, and a person I know well vouched for them and said they were a nice couple who would be moving in next door, and had told me in advance they had a little girl 2 years old, and were a very nice young couple. Well, she came down and asked and said she would get rid of it after they got theirs in. I never had any issues, and they looked like a trust worthy couple to me. He was into renovations, so my good deed may get me a favor in the future as well. I wouldn't advise it a good thing to do for everyone though.

@beowulf saidThey are clearly hostile foreign agents who moved into that apartment specifically because they already had your dossier, and their plan is to conduct a DDOS attack against all of Canada, originating from your IP address.

@beowulf saidIf they had the balls to ask someone they don’t even know, you have the right to tell them I’m sorry I just don’t feel comfortable with that, and you’re sorry it’s nothing against them. They can try another neighbor, no need to buy them anything. It’s not the end of the world to go a couple days without internet or use their phones for their kids. When my kids were young we went years without tv, etc. they will live.
