When surfing dolphins are the best its just amazing riding the same wave as them, whereas seeing sharks when surfing (although it has only happened a few times) I can do without.

When scuba diving definitely sharks, much safer once your under the surface with them and there an awesome beautiful creature which deserves respect for its perfection. One of my most memorable moments has been with sharks, 20+ 3metre nurse sharks (close enough to touch) all under a natural rock arch in 30metres of water.

Either or their both fantastic species.

Sharks are not evil. They are in fact much maligned, thanks to movies like Jaws. They are an incredibly interesting animal, whose evolutionary emergence goes back an incredibly long way since when they are relatively unchanged. They are remarkably well adapted to their environment, suffer from almost zero diseases and, despite popular opinion, are not all dangerous man eaters. The media has villified them and they play an important part in the marine world on many different levels and we still have a great deal to learn about them.

The largest fish in the world is a shark, the Whale shark is a harmless plankton feeder with a mouth two metres across. The Greenland shark is a carion feeder that lives in sub-zero waters and moves so little to conserve it's energy that it grows populations of algae and other plants on it's body. The Cookiecutter shark has been responsible for the sinking of submarines in World War 2 as it has a taste for the rubber which used to be used to seal the periscope housings.

Just a few quick bits of trivia about this wonderful creation. I mean what have dolphins ever done but blown water at Paul Hogan?

Looks like sharks win as the better species.

Dolphins can put mines on boats and can take some off.
They can fetch and find in the sea.
I still want the nasty sharks in a tank and the dolphins in the sea.

just an aside bit
Our local aquarium couldn't figure where all the fish were disappearing to. Nor why the octopus in a tank across the corridor wasn't eating. mmm.. next night they filmed the octopus lifting the lid on it's tank getting out of its tank crawling across the corridor snaffling fish and returning home... they put a heavy weight on it's tank lid...prob solved

The Octopus is clever... if you put food in a chest and lock it. then put the key with different keys it will figure out which one opens the chest... thats smart. even with more keys than a chimp can manage in the same test!
Cool.
