An independent Scotland would mean a Scotland run by the people of Scotland, not by the UK government.
There are all sorts of different reasons why people would want it. Some for romantic notions about past battles and such nonsense.
Personally, I think it is a question of democracy.
In terms of the flag, I'm not that bothered. I suppose it is just ...[text shortened]... debate to be had about whether we should have a new flag, but I don't think it is a priority.

I fear it's just going to be a case of: "Meet the new boss....same as the old boss..."
For many though, myself included, independance is a neccesary first step to all sorts of further progressive steps.
IMO, an independant capitalist Scotland is no better than a capitalist UK. However, it is easier to move away from capitalism in an independant Scotland than it is in the UK.
just have the union jack, a british football team etc and together with the welsh and northern irish we can win the world cup. even better like the lions rugby we could have a british isles team including southern ireland as well. after all we all live on the same islands, so let's pull together. Living in Belfast gives me a certain perspective on these things, although i know it's never going to happen.

true, but that doesn't include southern ireland. it's a good example though of how we should be pulling together. one flag, one team, not all against each other.

which is why it's divisive and we should all have the same team! look at a map of the world and you'll realise we're all from the same small place. sport drives us apart but it could bring us together. history and politics stand in the way, and always will.
COME ON SCOTLAND!!!
