OK, so that is official then, 3 decades of my life wasted staring at a white screen and a flashing black cursor now then.

Still have mine. And it works.

Did you ever spend a whole month trying to enter a game program from a nerdy magazine into it, only to find out that it didn't work?

Of course, the urge to play games when I owned none was my introduction to this stuff. And I still remember failing to get the syntax right on literally the first one I ever entered.

I entered "AND" instead of "RND". (The print quality was low on those early magazines) Without any programming knowledge whatsoever, I had no idea if it was right or wrong. I spent ages trying to figure it out.

On Friday I spent over 9 hours searching a mass of Java code for the cause of a slightly more subtle issue than that, but again, nothing much changes...I'm kind of surprised my eyes still work at all.

I actually had two programs printed in those 'nerdy' magaizines
so watch it. 🙂

One was a fantasy dice generator for D & D the other was a
Zombie game.

The were short and typed in basic.

The nightmare listings were those in machine code. I once
spent a weekend typing in one just to see my name move across
my TV screen in a larger font.

I was totally addicted to Star Trek.

Remember:

- - - - P - - -
- - - - - - - -
- - S - - - -P
- - - - - -K -
- P - - - - - -
- - - - - - - -
K - - - - - - -
- - - - E - - -

One Starbase, 2 Klingons, 3 planets and The Enterprise.

We had a person named Fulvio in our Computer Coders first-year class. He hacked the tutor's college computer access and turned up before class to share a printout of all her mistakes in the class exercise ...

In those 1970s days people like Fulvio were rare birds indeed.

Any idea what he is doing now?
