I've noticed there are players on this site who smurf their ratings. By this i mean a player who plays 2 or 3 games at a time and just creeps their rating up to heights they otherwise wouldn't achieve in a million years. It interests me as i've never quite made it over 1650 on this site, yet i consistently see players around 1700 who haven't played anyone over 1500. I think i might try this out for a while as my rating is at an all time low. Maybe i'll make 2000! 🙂

Smufs are smurfing smurf now?

Shame!

I wouldn't name names... but it is fun to find a graph where a person only plays 1200 rated people and creeps up to the 1800+. Why? Why would anyone even play them if they were rated 1200????

Because sooner or later they'll loose to a 1200 that's why 🙂. Personally i've never been one of those lucky few who gets an easy 300 points 😛

The maximum anyone can gain in a single match is 36 points.

The 'Easy 300 points' is the points you gain by playing only 1200 rated players and winning most all the time. Over time you can go way up.... but the graph tells all with the slow steady climb.

A 1200 player gets 36 points with a win? That is worth a try... what do they lose?

Where is the ratings calc?

Found it.... http://www7.brinkster.com/obyrne/rhp_rc.htm

well,

maybe they are just looking for relaxing games, and they are really a 1200 rating type of player, so that's who they play.

no rating system if foolproof!

I have to admire their consistency. My level is about 1550-1600 but i could never win 100% of my games. I'd have to only accept games from 1300ish players to stand any chance of getting a clean upward graph.

Sometimes this happense because a person starts a lot of games all at once. As this person keeps winning these games, their rating goes up and up. Even though they started by playing 50 people who are 1300 while they are also 1300, by the time the last game finishes, the player may be much higher, but still playing 1200's.
