Won't let me use the site now unless I disable my ad blocker, rich coming from a company that forces people in the UK to pay a TV license to remain ad free.

So are you able to get BBC iplayer in Colombia?

I wasn’t able to get it in France. Thought this unfair considering I’d already paid my licence fee for it in the UK.

There are a whole slew of BBC podcasts that are as good as anything out there.

No. I leave that to people like you. They say it's "supported by advertising" overseas but I never hear any adverts.

So you still get to see the TV, all you have to do is endure the advertisements. We do it here in Canada. 🙂

Not when I use WiFi, I believe it’s blocked outside the UK but when I use data on my phone it thinks I’m in London, still using a sim from 3 with no extra charge for using the phone here. Was able to watch the Super Bowl on the iplayer but other than MOTD a couple of times don’t bother with it, screen is to small. Agree though, if you pay your license it shouldn’t matter where in the world you are. Spotify is a little like that, it will let you use it for two weeks before saying you need to update your country, if you’re in a country without Spotify then it won’t work anymore. I presume it’s like Netflix and different countries have different rights to certain material.

I always assumed you had to call to let them know that you were in a different country so they could make that your local number, then of course change it back when you get to your own home. It sounds weird to me my friend. It is just a big money racket.

Aw, no, it’s called roaming, usually would cost a fortune to use the sim outside of the UK but it has gotten considerably cheaper as the years went by and 3, my provider have a ‘roam around the world’ deal with 70 odd countries which allows you to use your phone as if you were still in the UK. Money racket, I don’t think so, I’m only paying them £8 a month for the sim with 12gb of data.

So the price doesn't change with amount of data used. I didn't know about the 'roam around the world deal' or there was even such a thing. I don't travel enough to be concerned about it actually. Long as you figure you're getting a good deal is all that matters.
