Sorry if this is a FAQ, I did a search and found nothing that seemed relevant.

What software would be recommended for keeping track of your game analysis? Ideally, something that keeps track of games in progress, lets me analyze different variations, preferably with note-entering capability, and saves it all (to a PGN file?) for later use/re-use. It would also be nice if I could create (PGN?) files with my favorite opening lines, so I don't have to go digging through my handwritten note or 25-year-old copy of ECO.

Basically, do on the computer what I currently do with paper & pencil.

A quick Google search got me to ECTool, anyone here use it? How well do they work for you? Any others I should check out?

I say get "Winboard".

Others will say "Chesspad".

Both will allow you to copy PGN from here and add notes. Google search them, they are free.

The name's an inside joke from my high school chess club ~30 years ago. It doesn't mean what you think it means 🙂

Back in my high school days, I played the Sicilian Kan almost exclusively vs. P-K4 openings. It relates to black's piece development in many of the lines of that opening.
