@vivify saidMost rappers, their entourage and the lyrics are all thugs and thug living.
For those who may not like rap, I get it. Though these may not change your try sampling these, which happen to be some of my all time faves:

I've tried listening in the past but was always disgusted. Not interested!!
@chaney3 saidMainstream rap has changed pretty drastically. The number one charting rap song of all time is "Old Town Road", a song about riding on a horse. That artist is also openly gay, something unthinkable at one time in rap culture.

Drake has been the single most popular rapper of the previous two decades, is known for being a soft, introspective music. Here's one of many examples from him:
The "gang" aspect of rap music has been on a continual decline; so much so, that a significant section of rap fans have criticized the genre for being too soft.
@vivify saidNas and Tupac are classics.

@chaney3 saidIf you're someone born before 1970, chances are you won't like rap. It's a genre that targets, and is consumed by, mostly young people. In the same way parents once complained rock & roll or heavy metal was "not music" (many claimed it was from the "devil" ) or was just "noise", older people may do the same with rap.

I grew up on rap and even I'm starting to say the same thing my parents said about rap. There are artists who I can't for the life of me understand why they're even remotely popular. But I'm getting older, so it's to be expected.
Rap, heavy metal, they're not for older people.
