SirLoseALot, I believe that the part in your previous post about survival of the fittest (or smartest) is what upset LittleBear. There's nothing wrong with spending money on yourself for your own enjoyment, but people living in poor countries shouldn't be viewed as less fit or smart. In some countries you could be the incarnation of Zeus himself and still live ...[text shortened]... . The best thing you could do is show this person's kindness to other people when you are able.

1. once you start on that path, how do you justify any expenditure on yourself beyond bare subsistance?
2. maybe someone gives 2x or 10x to the poor what you do. then, even if they spend money on RHP (or a luxury yacht, for that matter), they are still doing more good than you.
3. i live in a country that gives a lot in foreign aid, which is paid for with my taxes. and there is a lot spent on social security, for the jobless, homeless etc, again with my taxes. i'm probably giving more to the poor than you, albeit indirectly.
4. Russ has given up his job to develop this site. It's up to us who use this site to support his efforts and dedication.
5. There's more to supporting the poor than donating a bit of money. Time is a resource too. If you're serious, why not go and lend some emotional support too? If you can't spare $US15 to join RHP, because of your dedication to the poor, perhaps you can't spare the time you spend here either.
At any rate, I admire the fact that you are trying to make a difference, but pls don't get 'preachy'.
