I love beer. WHich beers? Im glad you asked, here is fulcherjl's top 5.

1. Bass Ale
2. Newcastle
3. Heinekin (that spelling looks awful...cant be right...)
4. Black and Tan with Bass Guiness, not a huge fan of Harp
5. Yeungling (because, I am on a budget)

Worst beer of my life...I was at a DMB concert, the band was performing, the air was a perfect 75 degrees F, and I was dreaming of a cold one. As I stood in line, I didnt really pay any attention to the prices. I got up to the counter, ordered two beers, one for me, and one for my wife. Not big beers, just a normal, 12oz beer. The lady tells me $16 for 2 beers.......OUT OF A KEG!!!. She didnt get a tip.

So I did the math. A keg holds around 180 12 oz beers. A keg of the cheap stuff will cost around $40 wholesale.

They pay for the keg after 5 beers, and the rest is profit. What a racket.

Dont worry though, I didnt let this ad apple ruin the big picture here. beer has a lot more to offer.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Excellent topic Jonathan.
I suppose my faves are:
1. Bud Light (I know, pretty normal)
2. Heineken
3. Michelob Ultra (Low Carbs!!)
4. Carlsberg
5. Killians Red

I have another one, but it's not really a beer, so much as it's a drink.
It's called a Shandy (I think). You pour about 3/4 of a pint with Carlsberg and the rest with pink lemonade or red koolaid (I can't remeber which). It's really good.

All fine beers. Killians is another favorite of mine. As faithful as they come.

The problem with Bud Light, is that the case is empty before you realize it. That stuff goes down like candy.

I was waiting for a plane at Heathrow, so I stopped into a little bar for some breakfast and beer. Great food by the way. I ordered a big beer, and was shocked. It was not carbonated, and it was warm. Different than what Im used to. The "English" beer that we get in the States is cold and carbonated. Are true English beers warm, and Non-carbonated?

You must be joking. Apart from the first (Bass) in your list, none of the others would appear in my top 100 list. Where are the Irish, Belgian, German, French, English, Danish, ... beers?

But I would gladly talk it over in more detail whilst having one of each from your list 🙂

Gilbert.

Sadly, i do not jest.

I have tried quite a few worldly beers, but cant remember any of them. Not sure if that is good or bad. I guess thats good. At any rate, I have a scrapbook of the different beers we had in Germany, England and Finland. I have no clue if they were good or bad because I had to many of them.

Isnt Belgium the beer capital of the World? Lets plan a RHP Field trip.

You wouldnt put "Heiney " in your top 100? Thats a good assed brew.

At any rate, we drank to much in Europe, because beer was cheaper than water.

Just sticking to the budget,
Jonathan

How can any self-respecting man put bud light at the top of thier best beer list? Commercial American beer shouldn't be allowed in the list in my humble opinion! Drinking bud can be contrased with drinking water and bud light distilled water, is it beneficial drinking something that you wouldn't know was alcohol unless informed otherwise. If you are looking for a light beer then drink a varient like shandy (beer and lemonade) or a good cider like strongbow (a personal favorite). In truth I'm more of a smoking man. If anyone would like to know my top 5 strains I would be more then welcome to share my knowledge. Living in Switzerland is great! 😀

I believe the comedian Jeff Foxworthy sums up America and its culture very well in his Totally Committed CD. He basically admits that the people of America tend to be quite unsophisticated yet blissful in thier thoughts. A self labelled redneck and proud 😲. I'm half American so please don't let any offence be taken. Drinking for me started at 14 so I've had quite a headstart on the youth of America still waiting for that completely outrageous age of 21 to consume beverages in bars and clubs.

You got that right. In some belgian bars, you have a choice of a few hundred local (considering the size of Belgium, all belgian beers are 'local'😉 beers, mostly 'strong' ones. In a few places they will even ask you from which brewing (year, or season) you want it.

Heineken is not even close to the better lager beers, in my opinion, just a commercially proven taste. But there, you have to look all over Europe. There are hundreds of great lager beers.

I had to work at acquiring a taste for beer as I am more of a hard alcohol person, so my choices would be bud and kokanee. I've never been able to stand the taste of lagers.

It's a myth that English beer is warm. It's room temperature (or cellar temperature) which may be warm in Mississipi, but NOT in England 😉

Personally, I like:
1) Theakston's Old Peculier.
2) Black Sheep.
3) Guinness (but only in Ireland).

And for lagers:
1) Staropramen.
2) Hoegarden.
3) Stella Artois.

I've tried Sam Adams when I was in the US, very nice. And Boreal is not bad in Quebec. Oh, and Maudite!

Old Peculiar is one i forgot about. A great dark beer. Much better than Guiness in my opinion. BUT, I've never had Guiness in Ireland.

Beamish is another dark that I forgot about. Very smooth.

Anyone like Mexican Cervezas?. Negra Modelo is at the top of my list there.

Man, I need to go to Ireland, and Belgium. I will be in Mexico in 3 weeks. I will bring back my "Tequila Report".

Continually testing beers for "science",
Jonathan
