Help forum takes to long, I have a bit of a computer emergency.

It seems I have lost sound on my laptop, and I seriously need it tonight for a presentation. It says "No audio output device is installed", which is interesting, being I have had sound on it for a year.

Any thoughts? Please help.

I am afraid I can't help you with the sound problem, but maybe you can put your presentation on a USB stick and borrow a working laptop from someone else?

I can't help you unless you tell me the whole story.

Firstly, let's eliminate the obvious: did you spill beer on it?

Give me:
a) Brand
b) Model
c) Approximate age
d) Motherboard model
e) Fifty bucks
4) Operating system
v) List of any recent software installs
n) Confirmation that Automatic Update is not installed
q) Anything else that you can think of that might be useful

You need to reinstall your hearing aid back into your ear.

You should be able to go to the laptop's manufacturer's website and download the drivers and have them reinstalled, with relative little issue. Should almost install itself with just a couple clicks from you.

You may also want to do a system restore. (If you are running Windows XP). Simply go to start then all programs, then accessories, then system tools, then system restore. Pick a date that you knew your sound was still working and restore your computer to that time. This should work and won't ruin any files you may have created

I used a diffferent computer as Noodles suggested. Strangely enough, the sound device appears today on mine and is functioning fine. How in the world does that happen?

I'd guess that the drivers for it either crashed or failed to load when you started the computer up.
