It doesn't make sense to waste money heating a 1200 SQft apartment....last year it raped me. ($190+ month heating bill and i was never comfortable anyway).
Looking for the most efficient space (electric) heater to heat the room where we'll spend the most time during the winter.
The room is 210 square feet with 8 foot ceilings.
will I actually save that much money?

GRANNY.
Sadly the thermo controls the entire apartment as one :/
My goal is not to use the central heating at all, completely off.
Live in one room with the space heater only when sleeping.
during the day no way in hell will I pay to heat this place. I'll work more hours to be warm for free, spend the rest of my time at the local coffee shop WIFIin it and drinking hot coco.

Originally posted by jlillyIf you have your own heating system just turn the thermo to lowest setting...usually 50 degrees. You'll need some heat in the other rooms to keep pipes from freezing.

bricks to keep it off the ground
screw driver to poke some air holes in it
various bits of trash
Keep it near a window for ventilation.

Originally posted by jlillyIf it's forced air, try blocking off the ducts to the rooms you don't want heated, that forces the air only to the one you want, where the thermostat is. You can also take the theromstat out and add wires to the room you really want heated if it's not there already, it's just a two conductor cable you can get at home depot, Lowes, or Radio Shack.
