Sadly the thermo controls the entire apartment as one :/
My goal is not to use the central heating at all, completely off.
Live in one room with the space heater only when sleeping.
during the day no way in hell will I pay to heat this place. I'll work more hours to be warm for free, spend the rest of my time at the local coffee shop WIFIin it and drinking hot coco.

It doesn't make sense to waste money heating a 1200 SQft apartment....last year it raped me. ($190+ month heating bill and i was never comfortable anyway).
Looking for the most efficient space (electric) heater to heat the room where we'll spend the most time during the winter.
The room is 210 square feet with 8 foot ceilings.
will I actually save that much money?

Originally posted by AThousandYoungrunning a heat pump is essentially running an air conditioner, its not exactly an efficient heat source. It's fine for areas like LA where you live, but in cold weather climates they are crap. electirc blankets are nearly 100% efficient. There are also some newer "space heaters" that lie flat on the floor (usually under desk's for offices) that work very well, and use very little electricity

Originally posted by jlillyIf you live in a cold weahter climate, (northern states etc...) you run the risk of freezing your pipes, which will be far more costly than running the heat. If you can keep the apt at about 55 degrees, then almost any small electric space heater will work. Be sure to turn it off when your not there or sleeping, as they can start a fire. An electric blanket between a comforter and the sheet should keep you toasty.

So just out of curiousity, if you were somehow impregnated by this heater, what would you have?
Maybe it will be the space heater you so dearly crave. It's kind of like a "baby" heater.
