how does one get rid of it

Been through this one already..

Download and run the following programs

Lavasoft - Adaware
SpyBot search and Destroy
Microsoft AntispyWare

...and stop porn surfing 😉

free stuff from the internet me thinks

You will need to download some anti-spyware software, or manually modify your registry (which I do not recommend).

SpyBot is what I prefer:
