Originally posted by TJN22I have played it as I own the set. Also recieved it as a gift. I played an associate whom beat me 3 games to 2. I played my mumsy twice. In the second game I had her checkmated about 5 different ways. She kept trying to find a way out, blocking one way but failing in the other. She got a headache and went back home. I left the board as it was and the next week when she visited we went over it again and she finnally admitted defeat and never played me again.
Has anyone ever played this game? I was given the tri-d chess set a as gift, and am curious if anyone has ever played/owned this game.

How did you learn to play? The instructions that came with the set are really lame, and I have been trying figure it out as I go. Did your set come with any official rules or instructions? I've cheched out a few trekkie sites without much luck. Something I did learn was that on the original series, the game was "just for show" and never really played or had any rules developed. That was done later after Star Trek gained a cult following.
It sounds like you have had some fun playing the game. I don't think the previous owner of my set ever used it. The board and pieces look brand new, and are just a little dusty.
I'm hoping to break them in proper. I have a freind who I play OTB chess with, and I would like to throw this set in for a little variety. We play enough to know most of each others moves, an this would definitely mix things up.

I'm not far from imploding, that's why I'm trolling for help.
The easiest way to view the board when you start playing is to stand above it and look down. This will give you a 2d view with some overlap. It will help you understand the concept better I think.
