Recently, a Cub Scout got lost in the wilderness of Utah, and was missing for 4 days. He was found safe on Tuesday, which is wonderful news. I'm very glad that the boy is safe and sound, and back home with his parents.
Having said that, now on to something that made me stop in mid-sentence and stare blankly. The following is from a CNN article. Note what the parents said, about what their boy was doing:
The parents of 11-year-old Cub Scout Brennan Hawkins said today their son "continues to amaze us" after surviving four days alone in the Utah wilderness. They said Brennan was taught to stay on the trail if he ever got lost and also not to talk to strangers, so "when an ATV or horse came by [searching for him] he got off the trail ... when they left, he got back on the trail."
Now, while I'm sure the mother and father think it's wonderful that their son was obeying the rules so well...does anybody else think that ignoring passersby while being lost, is a bit daft?
Is it not also crazy to stand on a trail all day, hoping to be rescued....and then, when help starts coming on the trail, to hide until it goes away? Then....get back on the trail, and stand there again? It sounds like it was just dumb luck that the kid was found, at all...because he was hiding from the rescuers.
I myself find that a bit....lacking in intelligence.

BTW, his parents also said it was a MIRACLE. I think too many people want to see miracles so everything that turns out good is called a "miracle".
And last (not to hijack your thread) but talking about not having any common sense. A mother of a 5 yr-old left the laundrymat and came back in to find her daughter thrashing around in the super washing machine! 😳 Seems like the little girl's 14 yr old brother thought it would be funny... but on those super washers the door locks when you shut it and put money in to start them up. By the time her mother could get a big rock, smash the glass window, and drag her out she was dead.

The guy who found him did his interview that day with his helmet still on. I think it was Matt Lauer, who asked him 'Why did you have your helmet on?'
The guy said he wanted to avoid making this public, just return the kid to safety and go home... avoid the publicity thing. I guess that didn't work, considering the guy was on the Today Show the next day.
