Has anyone noticed the eerie resemblance between the word cheese and the word chess? There is very little seperating the two. Just imagine what you would be doing if an 's' were to wither away and that 'e' sprouted two twins. Knowing how you chess players have a penchant for pontification of the metaphysical sort, do you think that this relationship between the two words is of any significance?

😀

Thank you! Best post I've read for a long time.

I have little further to add, other than that I regularly confuse cheesy with chessy. Although in fact for me it's purely a one way thing....cheesy always is read as chessy, and never t'other way round. I suspect when the reverse is true it will be because I have been spending too much time in the world of cheese. I hope this day never comes.
