Strange Circles In Western US

Recently, while on a flight to California, I looked out the window and noticed pockmarked all over the ground, strange looking cirlces on the ground. They looked kind of like a farmers field but I couldn't figure out why they were round. I've only seen rectangular farmer's fields.

From 40,000ft in the air they were easily viewable and were everywhere.

Anyone know what these are?

We can't tell you, you're well advised not to ask. You shouldn't have been looking out the window, I am surprised the stewardess didn't shut your shades.

Interloper!

Yes. That looks just like it. Although, these didn't have water in them so they must have been old ones.

These were brown, as in land. There were no plants in them and there wasn't any water in them. They were neither blue, nor green.

Actually, doing a bit of reading on this type of irrigation practice, it turns out that it is a highly unsustainable form of irrigation. Figures that's why I've only seen it out west.

Damn western farmers.

Alright, I concede that those big brown circles are Earth's nipples.
