I just found out my father in law who is 60 years old divorced 3 times, is giving his new girlfriend (45 years old) checques of $6000 and $8000 to pay a contractor to fix up the house they will move in together.
This lady has an 8 year old son and a 14 year old daughter that will also live with them part time due to the crazy ex husband who has them the other half of the time.
Is it just me or is my father in law the stupidest idiot on this planet?
His last wife had an entire house bought for her so she would divorce him.
The one before that took everything in the divorce.
Why are old men so desperate?
So desperate they will flutter away money for a relationship.
Why am I so mad? Cause this fool will be old and broke and have to live in my house.
Stupid old man.

Either he has discovered something of value which you have not yet discovered, or he has yet to figure out what you so cock-assuredly know.
Your relative inexperience (in comparison to his path) brings with it a surety which will certainly pass, even if only in degree. That certainty you hold today is a result of your self-assessed levels of independence, strength and etc., all equally untested by the ravages of life.
I know of one person in particular who parted with far more than this "stupid old man," literally giving over life itself for a largely unmoved group of people. 'Method to the madness' is a phrase which comes to mind...

If it was about companionship why the need for his money to be dwindled down to nothing when he already has a large house they can live in.
