Nice and hot the last few days ! Weekend's comming , and kicking back with some refreshment's in order . Went to the liquor store , and could not decide what would fill the bill . I don't want anything fruity , I just got over the flu and drank enough fruit juices to float the fleet . Gin and tonic is normally a great clean tasting stand by , but somehow not appealing right now . Same with beer . Any ideas ?

Appletons Rum with equal parts Malibu. Splash of lemonade if you like.

Failing that ....a nice Scotch and Dry Ginger Ale on ice.

It's a thirst quencher and depending on taste or mood at the time changes with the amount of ginger from a sipper to a gulper lol

Funny you should post this now. My whole family has been in bed for about 2 hours, except for my dad and me. We did something very fun: He mixed me a drink (had beer himself), we played darts (beat him 3 out of 3 games... yay me!) and then sat talking. Yep, I really really love my dad 😀
Aaaaaanyways, why I'm posting this: The drink was yummy. Although it was a bit fruity, but if anyone wants to try it...

Fill some martini into a glass, add a shot of whiskey (Jack Daniels I think it was) and a bit of elder syrup... although you can probably leave that away. Don't forget the ic cubes! Then... Fill up the glass with soda. We have this funny peach soda (which made it fruity), which is apple juice and peach juice and sparkling water (I think). But I guess you can use any soda you want. The mix I had was about 50/50 soda/rest.

Enjoy 😀

pimms, if you can bear being associated with a drink that is so inextricably linked with upper-class toffs braying loudly with pringle sweaters tied over their shoulders. it's a great example of a drink that you can drink gallons of without realising you're lashed - until you stand up.

I'm a fan of the summer drinks on special at places like Applebee's and Chili's and other fern bars that are similar. They have a knack for making fun summer drinks that whet the pallate, as well as satisfy the need for slurred speech and balance problems.

Not all of them are fruity, either. Summer Slam from (I think) Applebee's is a really good one. Bacardi Limon and gin and rum and lemonade....oh sweet nectar of the gods!

Jane MacQuitty's cheat Pimms is a real good mixer at a fraction of the cost. This is lovely and cooling and well worth mixing. From the UK Times on Saturday :-

1 measure 40 per cent gin
1 measure French or Italian red vermouth
1/2 measure Bols Orange Curaçao
A slice each of lemon, orange, cucumber
Sprig of mint and borage (optional)
Lemonade or ginger beer

Use a good, flavoursome 40 per cent or more gin, such as Tanqueray’s divine angelica-scented 47.3 per cent Export Strength London Dry Gin (£15.19, Waitrose). Mix and give the ingredients a chance to marry with a slice each of fresh lemon, orange and cucumber per person – a couple of fresh strawberries look summery, too, as do extras such as mint and borage. Just before serving, top up with ice-cold fizzy lemonade or ginger beer. The best proportions are one part Cheat’s Pimm’s to four parts mixer, but if you want a weaker drink, try five parts of mixer to one of Cheat’s Pimm’s.

Qantreau (spelling very dodgy here, but nothing looks right) and lots of crushed ice in a very deep, wide glass. Nothing beats it.

Of course, down here in the southern part of the globe, we're thinking about fireplaces and gluhwein.

Cold pineapple juice, sliced kiwi, and add vodka at taste... 🙂

10 years ago, I was introduced to a wicked drink called snakebite, But this wasn't just any snake bite, 'twas Tennants super strength cut with White Lightening. Believe me, it works OOOOOOOOOOOOOoo

Water. The most logical don't you think? All your suggestions will result in dehydration. Followed by death.

DEATH, I say.
