I took my son, he's 7 and ended up in the top four on his team.
His team took 4th place in k-6. It was a freaking parental nightmare though. In the hotel there were over 8,000 kids and 5,000 adults staying there over the weekend. We waited 3 hours in the award ceremony before the team was called up. An order of chicken strips costs about 13 bucks with tax too.

I said hi to Galaxy Shield while I was there. That was cool to see someone from RHP face to face!

Ask Galaxy though about how cool this place was. It was a giant indoor terrarium with a river in it.

It was also the largest scholastic chess tournament in world so far.

Chess in America is getting big again.

Hi Sam, what did you think of that hotel/convention center?
That place was pretty awsome just to look at.

The funnest part for me was getting buzzed on beer and playing against the other chess dads. And slapping each other on the back about how well our kids were doing.

Yeah, I went also. It was total chaos! It was fun though 🙂

I came out with 2 wins 2 losses 3 draws in the K9. I also had a really weird experience...

It was an alight tourney. I played poory and the chairs hurt pretty bad. The hotel was awesome but there wasn't much to do besides walk around it over and over. The best part was probably meeting Weadley, he is the first RHPer that I've met. Wish we would've gotten to play a game though 🙂. Oh well, maybe next year 🙂.

It was real fun. Me and my freinds made fun of the name gaylord the whole time.

Well, in my last game the kid had a "family emergency" in the middle of the endgame. He had to leave. He told me that he would offer a draw or resign if I didn't accept. I didn't feel like I had an obviously won game, so I accepted the draw. I had about 10 min left and he had 30. The TD said that there had been a death in the family.

Man I really feel bad for him...
