What do Norwegians do with their tea?
😛
Edit : Tea aka supper aka dinner
Also tea was a play on t which I omitted as you kindly pointed out 🙂

Originally posted by geniusI know what supper is, I just didn't know you can call it "tea" as well. It's called "kveldsmat" in Norwegian, or "middag" if it's a big meal. Most times "middag" is eaten earlier, and many people don't have supper.

breakfast-lunch-tea (dinner)-supper
Originally posted by geniusHm. You'll have to discuss that with adramforall, it seems. 🙂 I guess that would be kveldsmat then, although I don't think kveldsmat is necessarily eaten right before you go to bed. Probably right before the kids go to bed, though. And as I said, not everybody eats kveldsmat.
well-no. tea is your evening meal. supper is what you have before you crawl to be for the night.

frokost - lunsj (which usually consists of sandwiches, and may be eaten as early as 11 am) - middag (a warm meal) - (kveldsmat)
Originally posted by BowmannI don't know any other Norwegian words for food eaten in the evening, so I won't make any more guesses. Either it's "kveldsmat", or it's a word I don't know. Or there simply is no word for it. I don't think there is a German word for a meal you eat right before you go to bed.
How many guesses are you allowing yourself? Three would seems fair, I suppose.

it got very confusing at my old work. i used to work in a dementia unit at a nursing home. one of the nurses would call lunch supper, while some people would call tea supper, and the rest would call supper supper. they'd all wonder around thinking that they'd already had supper at 1pm. poor old dears 🙁
Originally posted by geniusThey probably don't eat supper (the right-before-you-go-to-bed kind of supper). If you eat tea-supper at 7 or 8 pm, there shouldn't be a need to eat supper-supper.
yeah-i just read his post again. this has confused me for a while too. what to people who call tea supper call supper?
