The BBC is the best British company there has ever have been.

It produces wonderful radio.
Has the best website (other than rhp) on the web
Pushes the technology boundaries from the wireless to podcast, it innovates and changes ahead of the times.
You buy one licence per household so family of 3 pay 10p each for commercial free, unbiased access to the world's greatest source of entertainment and information.
Commercial Free??? So what are all the ads about future programmes coming up? Or what's on the front cover of the Radio Times this week. Or what's on one of their other channels? All adverts!

"Unbiased" Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha: The BBC is so pro-government! They suck up to whomever is in power at the time because
A> They are frightened to death that the license will be scrapped
B> They are constantly lobbying for it to be increased, uising the excuse that digital broadcasting will cost them more.

Also, have you ever noticed the Party Political Broadcasts? Blair and co're are always on just before the Evening News on BBC1 - whereas most other parties tend to be relegated to 2.

Oh - and someone in this thread said something about "tripe they are forced to watch" - ahem ....Power Button, anyone?

The TV license is an excellent idea.
What do you think pays for the BBC world service, the most listened to radio station in the world?

The BBC is obliged to put on an x-amount of kiddies programmes, documentaries, news, etc. These are high quality (although watching the 6 o'clock news nowadays is like having a hole drilled into your brain) and other ...[text shortened]... blocks of adverts every film....
Just thinking about it plays havoc with my bowel movement.
BUT..........why should those who predominanly use a tv for videos playstation dvd's etc and who would forgo the use of BBC1 & 2 if they could forfeit the licence fee. HAVE to pay the licence fee just because they possess a tv?!

Have to agree with a lot of this post.
The constant, annoying adverts for BBC Digital are bloody annoying - I already have Freeview!!
Also, the News is a disgrace. How many times do you see a news story and think "this isn't news", then at the end they say "...and you can see more on that at 9pm", i.e. it was an advert for a programme disguised as a news item.

Also, the BBC has taken the PC thing to extremes, and is incredibly biased - giving airtime to islamic extremists to explain their viewpoint and constantly hounding the BNP for example.

Everyone should hound the BNP. The sooner they are removed from any idea of political process the better.

That's an interesting angle you've got on the world there, varg.

Wow. Definitely sounds like British TV and British food suck.
I have seen American TV and British TV doesn't suck half as bad!

I would say American food is the worst in the world. Best is Asian food (which includes just about every country in Asia).

British food is generally quite bland though.

I know, I was once an assistant Licence inspector...
so what if i buy a 50 inch massive flat screen, but have no receiver etc.

I would even go that fat to move the screen into a corner where it is virtually impossible to reach a socket ...

I would then use the screen for DVD's and game's only ...

Would they still track me ?

I deliberately chose them because most people oppose them yet the BBC should still be unbiased. Imagine if they hounded the Tories constantly.

No Slow, you wouldn't get done.

Apparently they have tracker vans that can tell when you are watching tv.

The tories (for all their errors) are not a bunch of neanderthal hate breeders with no politcal agenda other than to see race hatred become endemic, lurking behind a cloak of supposed political manifesto. No right minded human being should act or think in that way. And those that do shouldnot be given audience in the public arena, save to be hounded.

License by Law. This is because you can what T.V through your PC and
your most Video recorders only pick up Digital/Colour signals now. So you are still breaking the law.

When i lived in a shared house many years ago which consisted of 8 rooms you were by law expected to buy a T. ...[text shortened]... e so its a losing game.

The only thing good about the BBC is their Website and Little Britain
Luckily, you are wrong here.

Owning a computer does not mean you have to buy a license. Nor does owning a video. Any video with an arial connection to the tv will pick up a black and white (non-digital) signal. Even with a pc video card, there has been at least one case where the courts decided there was a lack of evidence to prosecute.

As for when you buy a tv, you do not HAVE to supply any details. Most companies ry to demand you give your address, etc, but you can refuse. I have done this twice now, once for a portable b&w I bought for my kitchen, and once for a present for someone else. This is the best answer for not providing an address. Just tell them the tv is for someone else, and you refuse to give out a third parties address. They cannot force you, although some shops will refuse to sell the TV (gits).

Just as a query, if you buy a freeview box (which allows you to watch bbc), can you then refuse the licence fee? Surely if it is 'freeview' - advertised as a one-off payment, no subscription fees), to then still make you pay the licence is breaking the trade descriptions act???😕

And the argument about how good the bbc web and radio is holds no water, as you can own a radio and internet-connected pc without having to pay the licence. It only covers the two basic bbc channels, surely...

Completely agree. The radio stations are tripe too.

However, must say that the website (especially for sports) is quality. Still not worth the fee for that on it's own though...

I don't think there is such a thing as an unbiased organisation, when it comes to thugs like these. I know it mustn't be fun seeing your friends in the spotlight, but they deserve to be there. By the way, your party are being allowed to have their say as well. They're just in news a lot at the moment because of their ongoing trial.

strong, disciplined organisation with
the ability to back-up its slogan ‘Rights
for Whites’ with well directed boots
and fists.” Nick Griffin

BS. I challenge you to pick a genre of music that you like, and then fail to find a radio station/show that you don't really like.

Their online radio (radio no longer just means analogue) stations are fantastic.

The license isn't for watching the BBC. It is for receiving the broadcast signal (see above)

As much as I hate the BNP (and they are very close to home at the moment, in Leeds) it goes against all my principles of free speech to accept that they should be censored. The two principles of the party that are being prosecuted at the moment are not being so for their policies, but for inciting racial hatred at one particular pub in Keighley (although some of their speeches from Morley and Wakefield have been taken into account)
I suspect some sympathisers of the BNP are just as mortified by the allegations as the rest of us, as the party were desperate to get a message across without sounding racist, however misguided those policies were.
If we were to censor everyone who said things that we didn't like, most members of the main parties would have to be permanantly gagged...
