Am I alone in finding the Palms Islands of Dubai, as seen from space, super-tacky?

What other tasteless landmarks could be constructed in this vein?

There's bundless oportunity for planetary graffit, but my vote would be for carving a huge letter into each planet and wait until they align to spell out rude words.

they're building a similar world map of isles there too. that's a bit tacky.


but I like the palms. far nicer than the usual geometric crap with straight lines. maybe they could've been more organic in shape though... if you look at them from closer (google earth), the sea has a nice hue. it sort of brings david lynch's wild palms to my mind, for some reason.

I suppose a nice orderly shape is necessary. There is the traffic to consider. At least they're not as bad as Mount Rushmore.

I wonder what sort of monstrosity Le Corbusier would have dreamt up, given the chance?

well, I'm not a big fan of steel & glass (probably because of the contemporary tendency of building gigantic rectangular 'fuse boxes'😉, but I like the way he twists stuff.

art deco is cool, catfoodtim. 🙂 there was even a picture of our train station http://www.decopix.com/New%20Site/Pages/Directory%20Pages/Intro.html in the link you gave.

the movie 'chronicles of riddick' had some nice massive art-deco spacecrafts piercing through the blackened sky btw...
