I do it all of the time.
It gets worse as I get older and more bitter and angry.
I catch myself doing it outside and tell myself to shut up because I'm sure I look like a fool doing it.

You should have been more specific.
Talking to yourself in your head = Normal
Talking to yourself in private = reasonably normal.
Talking to yourself outloud and in public = Future psychopath.

Sometimes, when I want to rehearse and record something that will sound spontaneous for the radio where I don't want to write it down/read it.
