there's a thing about old stupid tattoos. -even though they might make you appear 'stupid' in the eyes of the people judging people based on first impressions, they do convey and save a symbolic part of your youth. in a way, you become your own diary of flesh. and if you can't deal with what you were, then maybe you should. I also know a lot of people with old stupid tattoos, and none of them have regrets. they might not take the tattoos now, but they don't regret them either.

I like the idea of a diary. and wish I had stupid tattoos I took over the years.

furthermore, tattoos are an art form that can express an incredible variety of things. spirit of time, social contexts, family history, parts of your personality etc. The fact that they are 'for ever', is the thing that gives tattoos their punch, their soul. I think that's the main thing people without tattoos don't get. they are not supposed to be painless to take or easy to remove. that's the whole idea.

most of us will probably agree that traditional maori face-tattoos are a thing of beauty, respect and value. nobody goes around saying they are 'stupid', not without being regarded as an idiot anyway. but anyone else tattooing their face will almost certainly be called an idiot. -and sure, they actually might be idiots, but you really can't tell that just by looking. if you think you can, it's pretty safe to say you're the one being an idiot.

* EDIT* I applaude those who design their own. I still dont like tattoos. Gaudy Americinism, minds working too literaly.
What about tattoos designed and applied by the tattooee?

IN view of your edit, this post isn't so necessary, but I wanted to write "tattooee".

cheshire, your statement is generic and incorrect. you do have a point (kinda) but you have put it across in such a stupid manner that all you have done is upset and anger those around you and because of this you are an idiot.

i do agree that anyone who picks a pre-designed tattoo from the wall needs their head checked but those of us who took the time to hav ...[text shortened]... regardless of my age or my maturity - doesnt matter if im 17 (when i got it), 31 (now) or 50.
Then dont lump yourself in if it doesn't apply.I'm not going to be pc about it. Resorting to personel attack is weak. you can pm an apology.

I am so proud of you. Making good choices at 16 is very hard I am glad you made the decision you did. It shows how mature you were for such a young age. πŸ™‚

So what should I think of your tattoo? Should I be wowed at the bravery you showed faceing the needle. If you dont want hear my opinion about ink, then dont listen. you came swinging in here like a braggart bla bla blaing about being 16 bla bla. I bet if you flexed your tattoo at me i would realize how tough you are. Or will you just tell me?

I dont give a monkeys spit what you think about tattoos, i know lawyers, teachers, and executives that have them, and the all have better attitudes than you.

To generalise like you do is the mark of limited intelligence, and i hope as you get older you learn some common sense. At the moment you sound like a spoiled child who was "Dissed" (is that what they say these days ?) by someone with a tattoo, and want to vent your frustrations here before you retire to some vigorous venting of another sort entirely.
