I even have a nice 10 inch mirror that only needs a conversion from spherical to parabolic but I haven't bothered, in Pennsylvania, there aren't many days where you actually see stars! Meade makes a good one that does what he wants, I am thinking an 8" would be about that price. Celestron also makes a decent one. The best bang for the buck however, size wise, is the Dobsonian scope, simple mount and you can even get self guided ones too. Dobson was a Jesuit priest interested in astronomy and about 30 odd years ago designed his mount for simplicity and it has taken the amateur world by storm.
