for the month of july (well actually from the 22nd june) i decided not to drink any alcohol...kind of like a lent thing. i'm going to give up something i like every month until, hm, until i run out of things that i'll miss for a month.

my question, i really fancy a beer today and tectonically i've already done without alcohol for a month, would that be cheating?

i don't have anything in the fridge but i do have this limited edition bottle of ale i've had for 3 1/2 years on my desk that i was going to drink as my first drink.

Would that not be a waste of having ignored alcohol for 27 days so far this month?

You will regret it and think "eff me I have lost 27 days drinking" 🙁.

Stick with it laddie, you'll enjoy the beer more on the 1st August

I only drink once a week, and it's made the one time i do have some beer much more enjoyable. I have a whole ritual made up now, starting with picking the beer (I always choose Stella), and ending with me losing money at poker.

Have your beers if you want, but don't go over the top.

Forget it. After 3 1/2 years the ale has to be flat. 😞

i go through phases, i could go a couple of weeks without drinking anything then have 3 or 4 of having a few...sometimes more.

i've given my liver some serious kickings in the past. we're talking in bed for two days after throwing up green stuff.

never again.

Sad but majoring on minor things you'll never graduate from juvenile adolescence, whether you're 19 going on 28 or 39 going on 17.

I would wait until July is over.

It will give you that feeling of accomplishment that will make the first drink even better.

Maybe try something other than a 3 1/2 year old bottle of ale.

Unlike whiskey, those things don't get better with age.

yeah you tell alcoholics that not drinking for a mouth is a minor thing. but you know what they say about the little things making life sweeter? or maybe you're perfect in every single way, sorry master i do apologise for my adolescence.

you're a serious piece of work, you know that.

'majoring on minor things'

says a man who spends his life on an internet forum spewing verbal diarrhea.

pathetic.

Don't be too tough on him.

You and I have walked the walk, and that is the only way to know.

I congratulate you on your 35 days, no easy task. I just wish you would take it another step, one day at a time. You know I have walked the walk!

You already 5 days into month two!!

damn irish. no, not that....just doing it to prove i can. next month i'm giving up sweet stuff, that will be harder i think if i'm honest.

i used to drink a lot more than i do now so the 35 days really hasn't been an issue.
