...after a 50 year run,and 28 movies, Toho Studios announced this past week that the last Godzilla movie they will make is due out in Dec.'04. The title is Godzilla:Final War and will have the Big G. face off against 10(!) opponents, some old, some recent, including one brand new monster of tremendous power. The major sorrow for kai-ju fans like myself,is not the retirement itself, but that we are not going to see the ultimate showdown that was rumored to be the 50 year topper: Godzilla vs.Gamera. :'(

I would like to think this will not be the end of the Big G. Toho killed off Godzilla once before in'95. They only took back the franchise after that piece of garbage Tri-Star put out in '99 deservedly bombed out.

Gojira vs. Gamera! No, they are both good! Good as giant mutant creatures can be. I would have to pull for Gamera over 'Zilla.

I would like to see perhaps Gojira vs. Daughters of Guiron. Guiron is the knife nosed creature from Gamera vs. the Creature from Planet X. I hated that knife nose creature hacking away at my favorite turtle.

I would not want to see Zill vs. Gamera. There is no bad guy there. I'd like to see Zill fight some offspring of Guiron and a special guest appearance from Gamera to save the day.

I think they would also be best to try and ad some silly stuff to the movie, and make the movie look 1970's or older "lame". That might give the movie a feel like a good classic the first time you watch it.

I wouldn't want to see them fight either, but let's face it: Gamera is the only "name" opponent left for Godzilla to face. Probably the reason the G. vs. G. movie never came off is neither of the opposing studios(Toho and Daeai)was willing to have their meal ticket lose. And a "draw" would settle nothing. Now,it will be interesting to see who will be Godzilla's sparring partners in Final Wars. I presume Mothra,King Ghidorah, and MechaGodzilla will be in the bunch. I'd like to see Anguilas make one last appearence. As for the new "super monster",my money is on Bagan(supposed to be a Mothra foe in an earlier film, but ended up becoming the Destroyah),or the final, evolved form of Biollante.

Update: A blurb from Toho on 3/4 specifys that they will be making no new Godzilla movies for at least 10 years,so hopefully it's not total retirement for the big guy. Also,Mothra will definately be in the movie.
