I saw this movie for the first time the other night, and found that it was at times, terrifying. I know it's not as graphic as modern horror/thriller movies, but something about it scared me more than modern horror does. I can't figure it out.
There's something about Hitchcock's (all jokes aside, for now) movies that are far more horrorish than modern movies. Rear Window freaked me out for the longest time. And I have no idea why. His movies aren't particularly graphic, but maybe they're presented in a more horrific way. Like the dude who was lying on his floor dead with his eyes pecked out and blood running from the sockets, while also covered in blood and feathers. Pretty standard stuff these days, but maybe the fact that birds did it is what's scary about it.
Anybody else get this sort of feeling from his movies?

No such thing anymore 🙁

Yes, he appears in every movie. Next time you watch one of his films look for his appearance. 🙂

Great movie.. Hitch was one of the best ever.. the best suspense director.
There were a number of scary flicks made about that time taht just knock the socks off any of the modern ones.. Its that graphic violence wasn't permitted so they had to portray the scenes in such a way that you would imagine the rest.. same with sex.. they couldn't do sex but glamour and sexiness were fabulous and ooooh so cool.
Hitchcock was a master at twists, turns and keeping to on the edge of the seat waiting to see what happened next.
A few years back I was fishing with a 26 year old attorney. The gulls were squawking and circling around and every time one swooped near us he would get all hunched down. When I asked him what was wrong he admitted to being scared of birds. Said he had been ever since he watched the movie as a child. Knew it was silly, but couldn't get over it.
