So how many people think chess has seen it's best years? I wonder if now that computers can beat humans easily from this point on if there is really any point to the game. Is the mystery lost?
Will chess be the next checkers and just be a simple game to pass time.
I mean with so many people cheating can we really play the game in a serious way?
What do you guys think?

I suppose I mean all chess in general. Cheating otb will get easier. But now that computers are clearly better than humans is the sport pointless? Will th top players just memorize the best lines that computers have determined and simply play them out?
Or do we believe that computers will only identify new ideas in chess that we have not discovered?
Originally posted by MaroczyThe suggestion here (correct me if i'm wrong) is that computers can have such a negative impact that they would make playing chess futile for the average person ......I don't think so.

As long as there are honest people who like a friendly game and perhaps a chat, then i'll happily take the cheats on the chin and knock it down to the law of averages. Maybe chess just isn't as popular as when i was a kid, and that's sad.
Originally posted by Maroczychess has been being studied for 100s of years, im pretty sure the majority of actually good lines have been discovered by humans at some point in this. Computers have the luxury of not forgetting though so humans are at a disadvantage in that sense. Chess will hopefully never become a battle of memorization.

Everytime a piece is moved structure changes weaknesses are always there, which is whats fun about chess is seeing and capitalizing while still defending as best you can.
I used to solely play risk online and at one point was number 1 in the world in the game. But it lost its appeal over time as there are more players in the game ppl get together and team, and odds are a factor. In chess theres a beauty that no other game can come close to. I dont see it not standing the test of time. Maybe if humans could live to 500 years old and learn everything there is to know but I dont see a human in a lifetime learning everything about the game you can possibly learn.

I think internet chess has actually revived chess. I had not played fpr years until I was introduced to this site.
One problem wityh the site, caused by the sad cheats of the world - (hopefully short-term) - I bet you regret that one-off 1701!
