listening to the pros and cons of hitch-hiking again, i feel i must share with you all the fact that roger waters is truly one of the greatest songwriters of the twentieth century. this is indisputable fact and i will wrestle anyone who disagrees. everyone knows pink floyd went down the toilet after the final cut.
so there.

Think Pink Floyd was a finely balanced band with influences from all sides contributing. The contrast of Gilmore's reserved style versus Water's harsh gritty cynicism seemed to gel quite perfectly. As soon as they were removed from each other though, the whole thing stopped working.
I still like some of Waters post Floyd stuff (Amused To Death always gets me going), But i still prefer him with Floyd.
Originally posted by jimslyp69Agreed, Waters is a good lyricist, but his bass playing sucks and he's way too political all the time. Without the others' influences (primarily Gilmore's guitar which added the noise that truly made Pink Flord what it was), they never would have made it on Water's singing.

i agree with everything said so far - except for the statement about momentary lapse of reason being a good album (the second track is about dave gilmour's flying lessons for heavens sake). pink floyd were a collective, and fell apart after the final cut. roger waters is not the best bass player in the world, but hey he's not the worst either. and yep he can be a bit political at times, but nowt wrong with that in my opinion. the cynicism is amusing more than anything else.
BUT my main point is that his solo efforts are fantastic. radio kaos - fantastic. pros and cons - amazing. amused to death - truly one of the best albums ever committed to vinyl. when the wind blows - okay not fantastic but it has its moments.
remember, this is not a debate regarding pink floyd - we're in the wrong forum for that 🙂 this is simply a statement that roger waters is a godlike genius.

avec plaisir. all his solo albums are concept albums, surprise surprise. they are:
radio kaos - his first solo outing, maybe showing its age a bit nowadays.
the pros and cons of hitchhiking - if you can work out what this album's about let me know because it's a mystery to me.
amused to death - latest album, maybe 5 years old now, my favourite.
when the wind blows - sound track to the film. mostly instrumental, one for the completists imho.

Hey Edward, your avatar could be straight off the cover of a Water's album. Whaddya reckon?
[edit] haha forgot to answer the question - yeah could be, especially from his kaos days hehheh

I saw him in concert for the first two tours. Unfortunately he didn't tour for Amused To Death. I kept hearing rumors about a new album in the works, but I've pretty much given up on him ever coming out with a new one by now.

Did you ever hear any of Gilmour's solo stuff?
