For the examples I used, the fee would be 5.25%. For item 'A' ($1 price with $10 shipping) the fee would be 5.25¢. For item 'B' ($10 price with $1 shipping) the fee would be 52.5¢. The dealer saves 47.25¢ by choosing option 'A'.
that is incorrect, the price of the item would have to be more than that for it to make a difference. It is true if you did say $1 for the item and $500 for shipping as opposed to $500 for the item and $1 for the shipping.

The money they end up having to return to people in cases of fraud is nothing compared to what they make.
They don't, or never have with any of the many people I know about who have been diddled.

So i Logs on to Ebay looking for X item (not a lot of X's in this part of the world). I see the fellow for me, the bidding has less than a day to go, and the item is only €0.88 . . .yes !!
So i check the page, the item is cool, the seller is in a far away country, so i expect P&P, and i check other things from the same guy. I spy a chess Board. . . ...[text shortened]... m and politely told him to Stick his items up. . .on Ebay again.
Does this happen often ?
I, for example, have a Feedback Score of 133, with 100% positive feedback. If you went to my eBay store, you could be reasonably confident that the transaction would turn out to your satisfaction.
The more reputable dealers clearly list their shipping prices and tend to not overcharge for shipping.
Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveThey do return money. I have had money returned to me and know others that have as well. As long as you follow their guidelines you can file a complaint and get your money back. The problem is that many people pay in ways that eBay warns not to pay. You need to pay in a manner that can be tracked. Paypal is of course the best and quickest way to pay with the reassurance that should you not get your item and the seller cant prove that they sent it with a tracking number or proof that they refunded your money, paypal will automatically give you back your money.

Even the feedback points were being sold on there at one time - until ebay were forced to stop it.

My lesson is learned. The sad part is that i can t get anyone with the item i want closer to home, the Chess set i can buy in the UK (its really hard to find one over here), but the other item . . . i'll just have to wait i guess.

Previously it was openly sold for 10 pence or something stupid.
There are loads of good honest sellers on ebay but you have to be sensible who you deal with. And careful. I always get their address on the pretext of collecting it. Then get them to send it - they know you have their address so technically you should be safer. No good if it's in another country though.

Fair enough, next time make sure you read on what you are bidding before bidding money on your desired XXX gadget (or was it X gadget ??)
The funny thing was, the Tea set had €44 euro postage, and the chess set had €102. Total rip.
