There is a guy that stands outside all day near my office. His job is to stand by traffic in a statue of liberty suit all day with a sign for the local tax service.
I go up an extra intersection light each day on the way to work just for him. He makes me laugh. He does some crazy dancing that is so damn funny, it puts me into a great mood.
Do you have any strangers you see each day that are funny or interesting?

Originally posted by Bosse de NageThat reminds me. When I used to commute to school in Boston there was a homeless man there who was so happy with life. I never understood it but I was intrigued by him. He had a dog, too, both of them were filthy. He hung out in front of a snooty coffee shop for a year or more. But he had a simple philosophy for his life and he was very cheerful. This got him lots of coffee and sandwhiches. One day, he was just gone and I didn't see him again. That was probably 15 years ago and I still think about him.

"Diogenes, a beggar who made his home in the streets of Athens, made a virtue of extreme poverty. He is said to have lived in a large tub, rather than a house, and to have walked through the streets carrying a lamp in the daytime, claiming to be looking for an honest man. He eventually settled in Corinth where he continued to pursue the Cynic ideal of self-sufficiency: a life which was natural and not dependent upon the luxuries of civilization."

There is a lady I see walking to and from a local gas station all the time, also on my way to work. No matter the season, she wears beige pantyhose, high heels and a leather jacket. I'm pretty sure she's buying cigarettes. She also has a ponytail. It's like the same scene playing out time after time.

i used to see a guy around town who'd walk about in a full German WW2 military officer's uniform, carrying a black briefcase.
there was another guy who for years sat on the same corner banging away at some upturned pots. at some point, someone gave him some real drums, and he actually got a bit better - though he was never really any good. from the way he looked, i thought he was perhaps a little mentally vacant. he wasn't busking, didn't have a hat out for money or anything. just really liked drumming, i guess.

Makes one pause to consider the pain and the pathos that is being alive.
Originally posted by SunburntHey, we have that same guy here also! I always point him out to the kids and tell them that is what they will end up doing if they don't go to college.

On another note. I found a $20 on the sidewalk a little while back. It was rather odd but good luck all the same. Anyway, I though I would pass the good luck along so I gave it to the guy with the sign outside WalMart. But at the very moment I handed it to him, he got this crap eating grin on his face and I suddenly had second thoughts. I always wonder now, is it alright to go back on giving money to those people. I mean, you never really know if they need it or if they are scamming you.
I think I got scammed.
