So you know without me getting too technical:

A claymore is a really big sword. About five feet long.

A bastard sword (also called 1 1/2 hand) is a somewhat large sword, either a slow one hander or a quick two hander.

they claymore is the choice of the scottish higlanders! i have no idea if it was used anywhere else, but the scottish clans used it with a quite small round shield. didn't stop us from getting our arses whooped at culloden though 🙁
