@kevin-eleven saidActually 6-8 if you looked through the whole thing ingredients and preparation, it tells you at the bottom.
Looks good, but that looks like dinner for four, at least!
I had my first one ever over in Newfoundland in 2016 it was delicious. They asked us if we wanted dessert. I asked them were we going to put it? The said: you could take it with you.
Man it was some filling I'd never had a jigg's dinner before and they asked me if wanted the liquor with it and I said no thanks I am driving and quit in 1992. They had a great laugh out of that as the liquor was actually what is produced while it is all being cooked together. Everyone had to come down to our table to see the mainlander who had never had a jiggs' dinner before.
There are 3 different kinds and better half tells me we had something similar to this one. https://www.food.com/recipe/jiggs-dinner-15129
Although there appeared to be much more on the plate and the plate looked more the size of a platter.

I probably would have enjoyed a jigg's dinner in my younger days
Que Sera Sera
@lemondrop saidYou can enjoy a jigg's dinner at any age providing you can eat the ingredients in it.

When things open up again and I feel safe to travel again, I'll more than likely have another one, this time I'll know about the liquor. π

@very-rusty saidI think that would be a corollary to what @lemondrop said. π

@kevin-eleven saidNot quite, said he would have tried it when he was younger, doesn't give reasons for why he wouldn't now. π

At one time, many moons ago, we had a group of friends who got together every couple of weeks to try a meal from a different country. The couple holding the event would choose the country and cook a meal from that country, the other couples would provide some wine or desert from that country. We had had meals from many countries and one time it was our time we decided to cook a Canadian meal, choosing a meal from Newfoundland...Fish n brews. The “wine” chosen by one of the other couples was Screech. We thoroughly enjoyed the “wine”...the meal, in spite of us following the instructions/recipe to a “T”, was horrible. It was more appropriate as a drywall mud.
@great-big-stees saidI would agree to serving dishes from all over the world, as long as they are edible. π

@torunn saidI believe food people may not like would be something too spicy, but then others would love the same dish. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to food. I think a lot has to do with what you had growing up and in your early adulthood. Some have been fortunate to traveled and tried food from all over the world.

@very-rusty saidThat's the kind of difficulty this tavern has to cope with - different tastes. I think we manage quite well. π

@torunn saidSometimes I speak in paragraphs, like a character on a park bench in Dostoevsky (and indeed I have already written one paragraph then deleted it and started again) -- I'll admit that -- but what I want to say at the moment pertinent to this context is that I would like to help out at The Tavern, e.g., by wiping down the counters and tables, setting the chairs and stools upright, helping the latest volunteer down from the rotating giant dart board, etc.

I understand there's a staffing shortage in the hospitality sector because of government subsidies and upward mobility, but this tavern has been a safe haven for me and a generous one (especially considering my own erratic behavior), so I'd like to help out in return -- not really on a transactional basis or for the sake of keeping tallies of counters, but just because.
Humbly and affectionately,
K

You may just be the kind of help we need. Most people who turn up here offering their services usually claim they are good cooks and sometimes they are. What we need is a person who is willing to help out where there are jobs to be done, not necessarily in the kitchen. Let me check with my colleague Stees and we will get back to you.
Sincerely,
Torunn
@torunn saidHe/she, seems to be a standup kinda person but we will still need 4 references. Remember what happened with Bruno.π‘Chef in deed....hell, he was not only NOT a chef, but he wasn’t even a busboy. People these days...really.π²
