who's goin?! there is $500,000 do be diveed up among all the winners. Hell, the lowest rated players in this tournament have a shot at $10,000!! ....and it's up and up from there.

you all know about this? GM Maurice Ashley organized the whole thing. I believe it's in May of 2005. $295 to enter if you do before Jan. and get a friend in on it as well.

They expect about 4000 participants total at this gig. Any thoughts...?? Do you think with the success of this tourney that there'll be a slow shift in the US ameteur chess world towards the "big money" now? If so, i think we'd all get our "acts" together with this game.

My chess coach tells me that Ashley always has these "big" ideas that don't work out so hot. If it turns out to be a success, there will be another; therefore, I am personally going to wait for a next one (if there is one). That and it is quite a bit of time from where I am.

That, and Star Wars: Episode III opens the very same weekend.

I'm going. I met MA last year, and my daughter played him in a simul in St. Paul.
This is a good thing for the chess comunity.
